Altona was strongly represented at the Under 15 Nationals with Altona lacrosse players, Lincoln Struhs, Jai McGee and Jett Lewer (pictured below) all playing for Western Metro whilst Ethan Maher played for the Hurricanes side.
The Western Metro boys had been pretty much unchallenged throughout the week. There were several big wins and only one game had been close. The Altona contingent had a lot to do with the Metro dominance and starred in every game. Jett was the top scorer for Metros whilst Jai was also dangerous in front of goals and Lincoln allowed very few goals in. Both Lincoln and Jett received MVP awards during the tournament. Everyone was confident coming into the final but it was not to be. The Stingrays goalie played a blinder and despite having four times as many shots, the Metro team were unable to get the score on the board. At the other end of the field, the Stingrays played a very patient and disciplined game, holding the ball very wide for long periods of time, wearing down the Metro defense and waiting for a lapse in concentration and when it came, they made the most of it. Still the Altona boys could not have played any better with Jett and Jai looking the most likely to score on the day and Lincoln keeping the Stingrays to what should have been a losing score.
The Hurricanes had a tougher time at the tournament, being a lot younger than all the other teams but Ethan Maher was one of their better players. Ethan ran tirelessly through the midfield and his efforts were rewarded both in scoring goals and gaining a Most Valuable Player award.
All Altona supporters should be proud of the efforts of the Altona boys for the way they played, they all starred against the best players in their age group. In keeping with the Altona influence, Western Metro were well coached by Altona State League star, Lachlan McDonald and managed by Altona member Susie Struhs, who everyone knows is the best in the business.
